A touring event which features conversations with leaders from business, government, industry and academia took place at Trump Tower in Chicago on July 31. This stop of the Made for Trade tour included an in-depth discussion on advanced manufacturing (defined here as the adoption of new processes, advanced methods, and technologies to optimize manufacturing). The group discussed the new Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDI) which is set to be built soon in Chicago to provide a source for laboratory testing, innovation, and collaboration. Greg Baise, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturer’s Association, addressed the need for education and current shortage of a skilled workforce, stating “some 600,000 good jobs go wanting in America because we lack a properly trained workforce.”
