According to the US News and World Report, many manufacturing businesses will be lacking in necessary skilled resources to replace a retiring workforce. Right now over 75% of manufacturers report a moderate to severe shortage of skilled workers and over 80% reported a moderate to sever shortage of highly skilled workers. By 2020 there will be a shortage of an estimated 875,000 positions including machinists, welders, industrial-machinery mechanics and industrial engineers.
