The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 6% increase in metalworking positions over the next 10 years. College of DuPage (COD) will help meet the demand by offering a new welding certificate. The certificate was developed with American Welding Society (AWS) and provides AWS Level 1 training. The certificate is a 17 hour program with five new courses that will prepare students to enter careers as welders or fabricators. The program was funded through an Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing (INAM) grant, and is only one of 70 new certificates that the college has introduced in the last 5 years. The certificate will be a “stackable” credential that can be used towards an associates degree which will be offered at the college in the future.
