A new skills gap survey was performed to reflect the hiring status of companies in central Illinois. The No Job Left Behind initiative conducted the survey. The initiative facilitates partnerships between manufacturing and education to help bridge the skills gap with a new wave of skilled and trained professionals. The survey found that in Coles, Douglas, and Moultrie Counties, 505 jobs will need to be filled this year in healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, and IT. 48% of those will be replacement positions and 52% will be new hires. The survey also found that many “work ethic and soft skills” seem to be lacking in the incoming workforce, but companies have stated they are more than willing to work on those skills with those demonstrating initiative.
