To help prepare for the estimated 100 million new interdisciplinary jobs that will be created this century, College of DuPage (COD) will now offer a new Mechatronics Technology certificate. This program will provide students with multidisciplinary skills in mechanics, electronics, industrial electronics, and computer control. The certificate was created as an entry-level credential that will help students to enter fields as systems and automation technicians, maintenance technicians, automation specialists, human/machine interface programmers, and controls specialists. It is a 16 credit hour certificate featuring one new class – “Electricity and Electronics for Mechatronics.” The certificate can be used to build towards other certificates and degrees. COD worked with INAM (Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing) to develop the credential, which is based around training in circuits and electrical theory, mechanical theory, hydraulics, and controls.
