A student in Danville Area Community College’s (DACC) Industrial Technology program has recently been elected to the seat of Student Trustee, where he will represent the student body for administration. Dylan Haun has taken classes at the college since his junior year in high school. At the time, the program was in danger of cancellation due to low enrollment. So Haun went out and found interested students to keep the program running. He then began an internship in maintenance and safety with ThyssenKrupp Presta where he learned more about manufacturing. He continued his experience with an apprenticeship at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 538, and then returned to DACC to pursue an associates degree. He won a scholarship from Alcoa and has just started an internship at the company. The 20-year-old recently ran for the Student Trustee seat, won, and will be sworn in for his one-year term at the next DACC board meeting on Tuesday, April 28. According to Tracy Wahlfeldt, DACC Foundation Executive Director, “he values education, especially in manufacturing and technology, and he’s willing to share how important manufacturing is in this community and the wonderful career opportunities that are available.”
