Women are taking on a more prominent role in manufacturing. This Quality Digest interview with Kara Demirjian Huss, Vice President of Global Marketing at T/CCI, a manufacturer of compressors for vehicles, discusses how women are taking more and more high tech jobs in manufacturing. This will eventually lead to more women in leadership roles, an area that is still male dominated. According to Huss, the industry needs to change the stereotype of the manufacturing environment as “dingy, dark factory” to what it is now – a modern, high-tech, and fast paced environment. We need to continue to provide an emphasis on STEM education for women with access to training, mentors, and opportunities. In the interview, Huss also discusses traits of strong managers and lean manufacturing concepts.
