Grow Decatur is a community group that was formed to develop solutions to support the city. Some of the important initiatives the group has been involved with include education, workforce development, and housing. The group seeks to make Decatur a “vibrant and attractive” destination for young professional workers. Surveys have indicated positive responses on the performance of educational institutions, such as Richland Community College, but lower responses for their public school system. In addition the group has found that employers continue to have a hard time recruiting skilled workers to fill open positions.
