Last week, administrators proposed a dual enrollment plan to Elgin Community College’s (ECC) Board of Trustees. With this plan, high school students would be able to get ECC credit for classes while in high school. The classes would be taught by high school teachers at the high schools or at ECC. Additionally, students could get credit through advanced placement, accelerated credit, and dual credit programs. According to Libby Roeger, ECC Dean of College Transitions, the program can help students and parents to save money, transition from high school, and shorten the time towards earning a degree or certificate. 75% of students in the program are Career Technical Education students, studying towards degrees and certifications in manufacturing or nursing.
