The video “Success in the New Economy” details how expectations need to be altered to better align education and the needs of the workplace. Many jobs no longer require a four year degree, but need a combination of higher education, skilled training and experience. The hands-on training and certification programs available in community colleges from groups like INAM (Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing), will become increasingly valuable in the coming years. By 2018, the majority of jobs will be “middle skill” level jobs that require training, certification or an associate’s degree.
