PLEASE NOTE: The INAM Consortium was funded by a $12.9 million grant from the Department of Labor and tasked with delivering certificate programs in Advanced Manufacturing that can be completed in one year or less and prepare participants for employment in high-wage, high-skill occupations. Green technologies utilized environmentally-friendly philosophies, systems, materials, and forward-looking manufacturing techniques to preserve valuable natural resources. Recent years have seen the rise of a wide variety of careers and fields within green technology. Some of these involve the safe disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste, the re-use of equipment no longer usable as originally intended, the development of clean, renewable energy sources such as biofuels, solar, wave and wind power and installation of new technologies such as geothermal heating or high efficiency equipment.
These new fields have also, in turn, generated a huge need for more “traditional” careers to support emerging green technologies. Businesses are beginning to look favorably on how to better conserve natural and energy resources, provide clean alternatives, and reduce pollution and waste. Examples include the manufacturing of components for “green” equipment, use of environmentally-friendly construction materials, installation of high efficiency electrical and plumbing equipment, and sustainable farming. With so much focus on saving world resources in all aspects of life, green technology is a career path that is sure to be in demand well into the future.
