Q: I’m interested in a welding career. Is blueprint reading important?

A: Very much so. A blueprint is the main method of communication from the designer or draftsman to you, the reader. There can be no mistakes on your part in interpreting the instructions of the draftsman. So you must take a course or two to understand the meaning of the lines and elements of a drawing, be able to envision a 3-D feature from a 2-D print, and apply the right weld and materials according the print specifications.
