QPS Employment Group, a staffing and recruiting firm located throughout the midwest, has recently conducted a survey of local companies, and the results point to huge potential opportunity in the area of advanced manufacturing. This especially in light of the lack of a skilled workforce to fill many of the open positions. QPS states that “companies in the midwest are in hiring mode, yet nearly 50 percent have open positions not being filled due to a lack of candidates.” 70 percent of responding companies expect to hire this year, and 27 percent plan to increase wages, and opportunities are there right now in fields such as CNC machine operation, welding, quality control, and many more.
