Union Iron, at over 160 years, is one of the state’s oldest manufacturers, producing conveying equipment and components for commercial and farm grain handling systems. With a need for expansion to meet customer demands, Union Iron looked at several locations and decided to reinvest in Decatur. The 135,000 square foot expansion will build upon its existing production center, will consolidate numerous locations under one roof, and add 25 new full-time jobs. The company chose Illinois due to its accessible transportation network, highly educated workforce, culture of entrepreneurship, and competitive cost structure. The company was issued a $1.1 million grant under the state’s Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program to help with the expansion.
