The Certified Production Technician (CPT) program at Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) offers great opportunity for students interested in manufacturing. Students, such as Everado Orozco of Mendota, IL, are seeing success as graduates of the school’s program. Everado graduated from the college’s CPT program in May 2014. He was quickly hired by Eakas and has already been promoted when it became known that he held the CPT certification. According to Orozco, “the CPT was a great learning experience and I am thankful I went through it. IVCC’s teachers were first class.” Numerous local companies, including Eakas, American Nickeloid, and HCC have set up a $1500 Illinois Manufacturers Scholarship for students enrolling full time in the program. In addition, if a student goes to work for one of these companies after earning their certification, they are also eligible for a $1500 stipend. The scholarship covers approximately 50% of the program cost and can be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. The program starts again on Monday, January 12, but there is still time to apply.
