Harper College recently received a $25,000 scholarship fund for use towards the study of manufacturing. The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) awarded the fund to the college for its Advanced Manufacturing program which offers training and certification for a variety of high tech careers in advanced manufacturing, including maintenance technology, manufacturing technology, and welding technology. Sandra Westlund-Deenihan of the IMA Education Foundation Board of Directors stated, “Harper College truly displays all the qualities for which this scholarship program is intended … I can attest that students participating in the educational programs at Harper College are leading the way in obtaining the training and skills to help fill the gap in the manufacturing industry.” Harper College President, Dr. Ken Ender, said “given the shortage of skilled workers in manufacturing, it is critical that we partner with industry groups to ensure that our local manufacturers have the highly trained workforce they need to compete in a 21st century global economy.” Harper is one of six Illinois institutions that will be receiving the IMA scholarship.
