July was a strong month for manufacturing in the midwest. The Chicago Business Barometer rose from 49.4 to 54.7 in July, indicating an expansion in manufacturing. This bump was based on increased production and new orders. According to Philip Uglow, Chief Economist of MNI Indicators, “the positive start to the third quarter suggests that activity bounced back firmly as firms saw orders and output increase sharply.”
