Etsy, the handmade marketplace, has updated its operating policies to allow designers and sellers to work with small manufacturers and makers through its new Manufacturing Marketplace. This new forum allows sellers to work with small scale manufacturers that operate according to Etsy’s guidelines for responsible manufacturing, focusing on authorship and transparency. Partnerships between designers, production, and sellers will allow designers to leverage outside expertise and technology and to spend more time on product design and development. Manufacturers are already being onboarded in four categories: apparel and textiles, machining and fabrication, printing, and jewelry and metalwork.
